We do not serve power. We report on it.
Boho News is an independent public-interest newsroom built to make power easier to see, evidence easier to inspect, and political consequences harder to hide.
We cover government, corporations, courts, elections, policing, labor, technology, war, media, public money, and the institutions that shape ordinary life. We care less about the daily theater of who insulted whom and more about who made the decision, who benefits, who pays, what the record proves, and what happens next.
We are not here to preserve anyone’s access, reputation, party line, donor relationship, stock price, career plan, or preferred national mythology.
We are here to report.
What we are against
Boho News is anti-corruption, anti-authoritarian, anti-oligarchy, anti-propaganda, anti-exploitation, and anti-media capture.
Those are not party labels. They are standards applied to conduct.
We oppose public officials who treat government as personal property. We oppose corporations that privatize profit while shifting risk and cost onto workers, consumers, communities, and the public. We oppose police, military, intelligence, judicial, nonprofit, labor, academic, religious, and media institutions when they conceal wrongdoing or place institutional survival above the people they claim to serve.
We oppose the idea that wealth, office, expertise, prestige, or ideological branding creates a right to operate without scrutiny.
We also oppose lazy cynicism. Not every institution is equally corrupt. Not every claim is equally credible. Not every dispute has two morally or factually equivalent sides. Our job is to investigate the difference.
Who we are for
We are for working people.
That includes people who work for wages, tips, contracts, salaries, farms, families, small businesses, public agencies, classrooms, hospitals, warehouses, laboratories, kitchens, construction sites, vehicles, offices, and homes.
We are for people whose lives are discussed in policy language but rarely represented in the rooms where policy is made.
We are for civil rights, labor rights, due process, bodily autonomy, freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, privacy, democratic participation, and the right to live without being treated as disposable.
Supporting those rights does not require pretending every proposed solution works. It requires reporting honestly on who holds power and how that power affects people.
Nonpartisan does not mean neutral between truth and lies
Boho News does not belong to a political party, campaign, candidate, faction, corporation, or ideological tribe.
We apply the same standards to everyone. We do not guarantee equal quantities of criticism. Reality does not distribute misconduct evenly for our editorial convenience.
When the evidence shows that a claim is false, we may call it false. When conduct is corrupt, abusive, deceptive, discriminatory, or unlawful, we may say so. When the evidence is incomplete, we say that too.
We do not confuse politeness with fairness or false balance with objectivity.
Why we compete for attention
The news industry is dominated by institutions with enormous advantages in capital, access, archives, distribution, legal support, advertising, and search authority.
Good intentions will not defeat those advantages.
Boho News intends to publish quickly, explain clearly, build a large audience, and compete aggressively for search, social, video, email, and direct readership. We do this because journalism that nobody sees cannot expose corruption, fund public-record work, support reporters, pay for travel, obtain documents, or sustain long investigations.
Traffic is not our moral purpose. It is a resource we intend to convert into better journalism.
Show the work
Whenever possible, we link to the vote, order, filing, transcript, dataset, court opinion, audit, contract, photograph, or other evidence behind the story.
We distinguish what an institution said from what the evidence independently establishes.
We tell readers what remains unresolved. We publish visible corrections. We preserve publication and update history. We do not silently transform old stories into new ones by changing their dates.
Technology without surrendering responsibility
Boho News uses automation and artificial intelligence to monitor sources, compare documents, organize data, identify changes, prepare drafts, and reduce repetitive work.
A human editor remains responsible for every published article.
We do not use AI to invent quotations, sources, photographs, audio, video, documents, eyewitness accounts, or events. We do not publish AI-generated documentary imagery. Real events require real evidence and real media.
The machinery helps us report. It does not inherit responsibility from us.
Money and independence
Boho News is operated on a nonprofit basis. Revenue is intended to support journalism, including fair compensation, reporting, public-record fees, travel, subscriptions, data systems, photography, legal review, security, accessibility, and institutional reserves.
Money does not buy coverage, silence, favorable framing, access to unpublished work, or protection from scrutiny.
Our current legal operator is Republic of Bohemia LLC while a dedicated nonprofit structure is developed. Boho News does not currently represent itself as an IRS-recognized Section 501(c)(3) organization. Financial support is not tax-deductible unless we expressly confirm otherwise.
Media should be investigated too
News organizations exercise power. They decide which events become visible, which voices become authoritative, which facts are buried, and which interests are normalized.
Boho News will report on media ownership, access journalism, monopoly, labor practices, conflicts, political influence, advertising pressure, manufactured consensus, and the laundering of public relations into news.
We do not exempt our own industry from scrutiny.
Our measure of success
We want a large audience. We want enough revenue to pay skilled people properly. We want the capacity to travel, sue for records, analyze data, protect sources, and publish investigations that powerful institutions would prefer not to exist.
But scale alone is not success.
Success means more people can answer:
- Who made this decision?
- What evidence supports it?
- Who gains?
- Who pays?
- What is still unknown?
- What can happen next?
That is the newsroom we are building.
