Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 26, 2026
Boho News is an independent public-interest newsroom operated by Republic of Bohemia LLC.
This policy explains what information is processed when you visit bohonews.com, contact us, submit material, or use site features.
Our basic approach
We try to collect less data.
We do not use Google Analytics. We do not currently run behavioral advertising, create advertising profiles, sell personal information, or track readers across unrelated websites.
Some information is still processed to deliver and secure the site, understand aggregate readership, display third-party market data, remember your theme preference, and respond when you contact us.
Information processed automatically
Hosting and security
Boho News uses Cloudflare for hosting, content delivery, security, and related infrastructure.
When you access the site, Cloudflare may process information such as:
- IP address;
- requested URL;
- date and time;
- browser and device information;
- system configuration;
- traffic-routing information;
- referrer;
- security and threat signals;
- request and error information.
Cloudflare processes this information to deliver traffic, protect the service, diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and provide logs and aggregate network information.
Cloudflare’s own privacy policy governs its processing as a service provider.
Privacy-focused analytics
Boho News uses a self-hosted Umami analytics service at analytics.bohodigitalservices.com.
Our current configuration:
- does not use analytics cookies;
- honors the browser’s Do Not Track signal;
- excludes search-query parameters from analytics;
- limits tracking to
bohonews.comandwww.bohonews.com; - does not use Google Analytics.
Umami may process anonymized or aggregate information such as:
- page viewed;
- referrer;
- browser;
- operating system;
- device type;
- country;
- session and engagement measurements.
We use this information to understand which reporting is being read, identify broken or slow pages, and improve the publication.
We do not use Umami to follow you across unrelated websites.
TradingView market ticker
Boho News loads a market ticker supplied by TradingView.
TradingView states that its widgets do not set cookies. It says the widget receives the embedding page URL, widget type, displayed symbols, and connection IP address to operate and protect the service. TradingView says the IP address is retained briefly for protection against attacks and is not stored with identifiable data.
Selecting a market item opens TradingView. TradingView then processes your visit under its own policies.
Market quotes may be delayed and are provided for general information.
Browser storage
The site may use browser storage for limited local functions, including:
- remembering light, dark, or system theme preference;
- temporary quality-assurance suppression used by authorized testing sessions.
These settings remain in your browser unless you clear them. They are not used to build an advertising profile.
Information you provide
Email and correspondence
When you email us, we receive the information you provide, which may include your name, email address, organization, message, attachments, and other contact details.
We use correspondence to:
- respond to questions;
- review corrections;
- evaluate tips and documents;
- manage support inquiries;
- address privacy or accessibility requests;
- handle legal notices;
- protect the newsroom and its rights.
Ordinary email is not a secure channel. Do not send highly sensitive source material through ordinary email when disclosure could create danger.
Sending information does not automatically create a confidential-source, attorney-client, employment, or contractual relationship.
Tips, documents, and media
When you submit a tip, document, photograph, recording, dataset, or other material, we may store and review the submission, verify its authenticity, contact you, compare it with other evidence, and use it for reporting when lawful and appropriate.
We may retain material necessary to document our reporting, protect sources, respond to legal claims, preserve corrections, or maintain the historical record.
Financial support
Boho News does not currently collect payment information on this site.
If financial support is enabled, the payment processor will receive the information needed to complete the transaction under its own privacy policy. We will update this policy before activating payment collection.
How we use information
We use information to:
- publish and deliver the site;
- secure infrastructure and prevent abuse;
- understand aggregate readership;
- respond to messages and requests;
- investigate tips and verify records;
- correct and defend reporting;
- comply with law;
- enforce our Terms;
- protect readers, sources, personnel, and the public;
- operate and improve the newsroom.
We do not use contact information submitted for a correction, tip, privacy request, or accessibility request for unrelated marketing without consent.
How information may be shared
We may share information:
- with service providers that host, secure, analyze, or support the site;
- with professional advisers such as attorneys, accountants, insurers, and security specialists when necessary;
- when you direct or consent to sharing;
- when publication is lawful, editorially justified, and consistent with any confidentiality commitment;
- to comply with valid legal process;
- to investigate fraud, abuse, threats, or attacks;
- to protect rights, safety, sources, readers, personnel, and the public;
- as part of a lawful organizational restructuring, provided the recipient remains bound by appropriate privacy duties.
We do not sell personal information.
We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Source confidentiality
We take explicit source commitments seriously.
A confidentiality agreement must be made by an authorized editor. It is not created merely because a person sends us an email or labels a message confidential.
We may preserve source-identifying material separately from ordinary editorial files and limit access when a confidentiality commitment exists.
No security system is perfect. We do not promise absolute protection against legal demands, technical compromise, or mistakes.
Data retention
We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including journalism, corrections, security, legal compliance, accounting, and preservation of the public record.
Retention periods vary.
- Routine security and operational logs may be retained for limited periods determined by operational need and provider settings.
- Aggregate analytics may be retained to compare readership over time.
- General correspondence may be deleted when the matter is resolved and no legal or editorial need remains.
- Reporting records, source material, rights records, corrections, and legal files may be retained for substantially longer periods.
- Backups may persist for a limited time after deletion from active systems.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information.
These may include access controls, encryption in transit, credential management, separation of public and private systems, limited public promotion packages, security headers, backups, logging, and review of third-party services.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
External links and embedded services
Articles may link to government agencies, courts, companies, social platforms, document hosts, media organizations, or other third parties.
Third-party sites and embeds operate under their own privacy policies and security practices. Boho News does not control them.
Children
Boho News is a general-audience news publication and is not directed to children under 13.
We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we collected such information without appropriate authorization, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
A parent or guardian may contact us at contact@bohonews.com.

You may:
- enable Do Not Track in your browser;
- block JavaScript or third-party resources, although some features may stop working;
- clear browser storage;
- avoid sending optional personal information;
- request access, correction, or deletion when applicable law provides that right;
- object to or restrict certain processing when applicable law provides that right.
We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

Privacy requests should be sent to contact@bohonews.com with the subject line Privacy.
