How scoring works

A clean clear earns a difficulty base plus a bounded speed bonus. Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert have progressively larger bases and par times. Hitting a mine or restarting the same layout locks that attempt’s score at zero; ordinary undo and flagging are free.

How Minesweeper works

A number tells you exactly how many mines touch that square—including diagonals. Reveal every non-mine square to win; flags help you reason, but flags alone do not finish the board.

  1. Read all eight neighbors.A 1 touches exactly one mine; a 3 touches exactly three. Diagonals count.
  2. Flag mines, reveal safety.Use Flag for squares you believe are mines. Open safe squares; a zero automatically opens its surrounding empty area.
  3. Chord satisfied numbers.When a revealed number touches the same number of flags, reveal or tap that number to open every adjacent unflagged square at once. A wrong flag can make a chord hit a mine.

Your first reveal is safe. Every standard board can be solved without guessing.

    This implementation uses the MIT-licensed Mines engine from Simon Tatham’s Portable Puzzle Collection. Generation, play, timing, and saved progress stay in this browser. Optional anonymous sharing sends only the difficulty, outcome, and a coarse points band.
