For decades, Interlochen was publicly portrayed as a disciplined, closely supervised and nationally admired arts institution. The historical record assembled in 2026 is more complicated. Former students described warnings, relationships that staff could see and, in at least one case, a direct report to an administrator. Investigators also said they found contemporaneous concerns in personnel files that remain unavailable to the public.
